The Academic Senate and the CUG Comitato Unico di Garanzia (Board for Equal Opportunities) of the Sant'Anna School have approved the following statement, supporting the principles underlying the Pride Month 2021.

“On June 28 1969, 52 years ago, the ‘Stonewall riots’ in New York marked the beginning of the international movement for LGBTIQ+ rights. A protest that arose from the Stonewall Inn, a small bar that played a key role in the life of the queer community of New York , brought thousands of people on the streets to reclaim LGBTIQ+ rights and the right of queer people to have rights.

From that moment on, June is Pride month, a moment in which – all around the world – we march for equal rights, justice, equality and the embracement of diversity. Despite the fact that this year, due to the global health crisis, some marches and demonstrations will not be possible, the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna intends to guarantee its community some important moments to fight for equality and civil rights.

June remains Pride month and recent episodes of violence and discriminations make us reflect on the absolute need to continue on our path for the full acknowledgement of LGBTIQ+ rights and for the unwavering commitment of public institutions for the safeguarding of LGBTIQ+ people from violence and discrimination, as President Sergio Mattarella recalled on the 17th of May.

Sant'Anna School, as a heterogeneous community made up by students, researchers, teachers, and employees - among which LGBTIQ+ people - takes the opportunity today to offer its full support to the recognition of LGBTIQ+ rights and to declare itself as an open and welcoming environment that respects, appreciates, and values diversity, considering it as an added value to its study and research community of excellence”.
